The Vital Role of Preventive Car Maintenance: Your Responsibility as an Owner

Many people overlook it, but carrying out preventive maintenance is crucial for keeping your car in top condition. By doing so, you not only preserve your safety but also the safety of others on the road. In today's post, we'll delve into the importance of preventive car maintenance and why it's the responsibility of every car owner.

Why Is Preventive Car Maintenance Important?

At regular intervals, it's necessary to perform preventive maintenance on your car. With time and use, certain parts of your vehicle wear down. If not attended to promptly, these issues can escalate into major and costly problems.

Here are some of the most compelling reasons not to neglect preventive car maintenance:

Maintaining Your Car's Overall Condition

Conducting preventive maintenance allows you to detect issues, scratches, and other crucial factors that affect your car's condition.

Ensuring Proper Functionality

Preventive maintenance helps uncover performance issues in your vehicle that could become dangerous if not addressed promptly.

Comprehensive Evaluation

These check-ups provide a comprehensive evaluation, assessing your car's functionality, performance, identifying any flaws, or confirming that it's operating smoothly.

Basic Recommendations Within Your Reach

Every 15 days, before starting your car, make the following checks:

  • Radiator Coolant Level: Ensure that the coolant tank is at the maximum level mark.
  • Windshield Washer Fluid Level: The reservoir tank should be at the maximum level mark.
  • Engine Oil Level: Remove the dipstick, wipe it with a paper towel, reinsert it, and then check the oil level, which should be at the "Full" mark upon the second withdrawal.
  • Fuel Level: When you turn the ignition switch, verify on the dashboard indicators that the fuel tank has at least a quarter of its capacity, allowing time for a refill.
  • Lights: Turn on your lights and inspect the main headlights for both low and high beams. Check the front and rear turn signal lights, both on the left and right side. Also, examine the front and rear parking lights on both sides.
  • Brake Lights: Ensure that the brake lights on the left and right sides are functioning correctly.
  • Reverse Lights: Check the reverse lights for proper operation.
  • Valid Mobility Documents: Always have up-to-date mandatory documents on hand, including insurance, technical-mechanical inspection, vehicle ownership card, and driver's license.
  • Safety Equipment: Make sure that your car is equipped with safety essentials such as seatbelts and a road safety kit, which includes an extinguisher, warning signs, a first aid kit with up-to-date components, latex gloves, a reflective vest, and a flashlight.
  • Tools: Keep essential tools in your car, including a car jack, lug wrench, and a security bolt for your rims.
